Family Assistance - Are You Missing Out?
Thousands of middle-income families may not be receiving the family assistance they're entitled to. If you think you may qualify for either of the two types of assistance (Family Support, and Independent Family Tax Credits - IFTC), you should contact the Inland Revenue Department.
IFTC are for working families and Family Support is for low-income families. The following table shows the income limits for the two types of assistance.
Number of Children Family Income, 1 April 98-31 March 99 (before PAYE) Family Support ($) IFTC($) 1 30,001 33,000 2 36,001 40,001 3 40,501 48,000 4 46,501 57,000 5 52,501 64,500 6 58,501 74,106
For example, the first line of the table should be read as follows: if you have one child and your income is $30,001 or less, your family qualifies for family support and IFTC; if you have one child and your income lies between $30,001 and $33,000 your family qualifies for IFTC alone (each line of the table should be read in the same way).
If you qualify or you have more than six children you can ring IRD's Info Express phone number on 0800 257 777 and follow the steps to have your possible entitlement calculated. You can also ring this number to ask for an application form.
