Mission Statement

“To be effective in achieving a co-ordinated approach to fostering employment, welfare, arts, culture and recreation opportunities within our Community, in conjunction with those local organisations involved.”

The Resource Centre services the Waimate Township & District, which extends from the Pareora River in the North to the Waitaki River in the South and inland to the Hakataramea Valley. We are administered by a Trust, and the day-to-day running relies on funding from Lottery & COGS grants. A Co-ordinator is employed for 40 hours per week, and in June 2004, we secured 30 hours’ funding for 2 part-time receptionists, who had previously worked as Volunteers.

In September 2002, we became a Heartlands Centre, an across-government initiative that improves access to Government services for people in provincial and rural New Zealand. Further information on agencies attending/information held can be found at:

http://www.heartlands.govt.nz/service-centres/waimate.html

The Centre provides:

  • Daily WINZ Vacancy List
  • Booking Agent for Community Vehicles
  • Internet Access
  • Secretarial Work & C.V. preparation
  • Local Employer Register
  • Local Hall Register
  • Clubs and Organisations list
  • Fundview - funding Database
  • School Holiday Programmes
  • 2 Interview Rooms & a Meeting Room, available by appointment

We run Projects, either initiated by the Co-ordinator, or together with other groups/organisations, and set up displays. We hold a variety of information leaflets on Health, Advocacy, etc., together with Passport Forms, etc.
