Seeking rural families in the South Canterbury high country
A research study about rural childhoods is looking at children's and parents experiences in a range of New Zealand rural environments. This is an area that has not been well researched. It is of interest and importance both locally and internationally. Undertaken by Mary Ann Powell, doctoral student at the Children's Issues Centre at the University of Otago, the intention is to meet and talk with children and parents in different geographical locations around New Zealand. To learn more about the study and get contact details if you and your family are interested in participatying, please download the parent information pamphlet below.

The couch

Have your say on family issues – join The Couch www.thecouch.org.nz

You’re invited to join the Families Commission on The Couch (an online panel). Anyone can join and have their say on family-related topics by answering short polls and longer questionnaires. More than 2,700 people have already joined (it’s free to join). The information gathered helps the Families Commission gain a deeper understanding of the issues facing families and gives the Commission a stronger voice to advocate for better policies, services and support for all New Zealand families. The Couch isn’t just for families with young children. Families come in all shapes and sizes and the Families Commission wants to hear a range of voices.

An upcoming poll Aging and Families: How does it affect you? is about the contributions older family members make to younger family members and vice versa. We want to know about the ways in which family members make a difference to the lives of each other. This poll will run from mid-January to mid-March 2007.
